Search that speaks trade

Plumbers type 1/2 inch, electricians type C16, fitters type M8x1.25. Tolra reads sizes, threads and ratings the way the trade writes them.

What shoppers type, and what goes wrong

Inch fractions in every spelling

Problem

Your titles say 1/2". Shoppers type 1/2 inch, 1/2 in or ½. Plain text search treats these as different words.

With Tolra

Fractions with an inch mark, "in", "inch" or the ½ character are one size. A pipe thread like 3/8 NPT counts as inches even without the inch mark.

Try it: 1/2 inch ball valve →

Thread pitch matters

Problem

M8x1.25 and M8x1.0 are different nuts. A search that ignores the pitch sends the wrong one.

With Tolra

Metric threads are read with their pitch. M8x1.25 finds coarse thread M8, not fine thread M8x1.0.

Try it: M8x1.25 →

Ratings and decimal commas

Problem

1,5 kW, 1.5kW and 1.5 kw are the same motor. 25A and 25 A are the same contactor.

With Tolra

Numbers with units are read as one value, with a decimal comma or point, with or without a space.

Try it: 1,5 kW motor →

Standards are not part numbers

Problem

DIN 933 is in hundreds of titles. If it were treated as a part number, one random bolt would rank first.

With Tolra

Standards like DIN 933 and ISO 4017 are never stored as AI part numbers. They still narrow the search as normal words.

Trade jargon

Problem

viton or FKM, MCB or breaker, gland or cable connector.

With Tolra

Add synonyms once and they work both ways. The search report shows the words shoppers use that found nothing.

Try it: viton o ring 20mm →

Buyers order by the list

Problem

A contractor has 15 lines from a quote and adds them to the cart one search at a time.

With Tolra

Quick order (Pro plan): paste "part number, quantity" lines, check the matches, add all to the cart. A code that fits several products is listed, not guessed.

For comparison, a simple text match on the same sample finds nothing.

What it looks like

How Tolra Search looks in a store and in your Shopify admin. Products and numbers are examples.

Sizes written different ways

1/2", 1/2 inch and ½ in find the same fittings. 60 cm finds 600 mm wiper blades.

The search 1/2 inch bsp elbow finds elbows listed as 1/2" BSP

A trade catalog is full of measurements, and every supplier writes them differently. One feed says 1/2", another 1/2 in, a third 1/2 inch. Shoppers add their own versions on top.

Plain text search compares characters. To it, 1/2" and 1/2 inch share almost nothing. Tolra turns every measurement, in the catalog and in the search, into one canonical size before comparing:

What stays the way it is

Part numbers. A code like NV-0050-SS or 6204-2RS is matched as a code, ignoring dashes and spaces, but never treated as a size.

Setting it up

  1. Install Tolra and copy your products in.
  2. Search your own catalog with sizes written three different ways. They should give the same results.
  3. Add trade synonyms your customers use. Start with the search report after a week.
  4. On the Pro plan, add the quick order block to a page for trade buyers.

Questions

Which units does Tolra understand?

Lengths (mm, cm, m, inches and fractions), metric threads with pitch, dimensions like 20x47x14 mm, and common electrical and mechanical units: V, W, kW, A, mA, Ah, bar, psi, Nm, Hz, rpm, l, ml, kg, g and K. Lengths in cm and m are compared in mm, so 60 cm finds 600 mm.

Are part numbers changed when sizes are read?

No. Part numbers are never rewritten. A code like 6204-2RS stays a code; only measurements are turned into sizes.

Is quick order on every plan?

No, quick order is part of the Pro plan. On other plans the block hides itself.

Can I push our own brand above others for a search?

Yes. Search rules can pin chosen products to the top of a search, hide products, show a banner, or send the search to a page.
